Beijing, the second stop on my China journey, felt like stepping back into a bygone era. Unlike the modernity of Shanghai, Beijing offered a glimpse into a China that was closer to my original expectations; a country steeped in rich history and ancient traditions. The countless lighters confiscated along the way were a small price to pay for the experience.
The atmosphere in Beijing was captivating, with its vibrant colors and historic architecture creating a setting that begged to be explored more deeply. From the intricate details of ancient temples to the grandeur of imperial palaces, every corner of the city seemed to whisper stories from the past, drawing me in to discover more. Although I was one among millions of visitors, the sense of wonder was uniquely my own.
One of the highlights of my time in Beijing was finally crossing the Great Wall off my bucket list. I visited the Mutianyu section, a less crowded yet stunningly preserved part of this world wonder. The memory of walking up and down the steep steps for hours is unforgettable, not just for the awe-inspiring views but also for the leg pain that lingered for two weeks after. This experience left me with a profound appreciation for the scale and history of this iconic structure.
